Windmills & Tulips - The Best of Holland
18th – 23rd April 2013 - 6 Day Tour
In April and May the fields of Western Holland explode in a riot of colour, as millions of tulips and other bulbs come into bloom. There’s always something new to see at the spectacular Keukenhof Gardens, and this tour allows you time to see Amsterdam, take a canal cruise, visit the diamond factory, cheese & clog factory, and much more too. With our own luxury coach and driver/guide throughout the tour this really is a hassle free way to tour Western Holland and be taken to see it’s best attractions.
Thur 18th: Letterkenny – Larne – Cairnryan – Hull
From Cairnryan we take a scenic journey along the Scottish borders and then south through Yorkshire before boarding a luxury P&O Cruise Ferry for our overnight sailing to Rotterdam.
Fri 19th: Rotterdam - Keukenhof Gardens - Volendam
After breakfast we disembark the ferry in Rotterdam. We make our way north to one of the highlights of this tour, a visit to the famous Keukenhof Gardens. These landscape gardens welcome more than 900,000 visitors each spring. It’s bright flower-beds, green lawns, winding canals, & ponds, make a spectacular sight, and can be viewed from the footbridge at the Keukenhof windmill. This afternoon we visit a ‘clog & cheese’ workshop before arriving at our hotel in the old traditional fishing town of Volendam.
Sat 20th: Day in Amsterdam
This morning we travel to Amsterdam for a cruise along Amsterdam’s canals. We disembark at a diamond factory where you can watch the craft workers cutting, polishing, sorting, & setting the glittering gems. We give you the afternoon free in Amsterdam before making the short journey back to Volendam.
Sun 21st: Free Day in Volendam
Today we have a free day to really enjoy the beauty of Volendam and all it’s culture. Perhaps take a boat trip to the nearby peninsula of Marken, or dress up in traditional costume for a souvenir photo.
Mon 22nd: Volendam - The Hague – Kinderdijk - Rotterdam
We have the morning free in Volendam and in the afternoon we travel to the beautiful city of The Hague, home to cosy sidewalk cafes, amazing architecture, and Holland’s government. We visit the village of Kinderdijk, with 19 old windmills it is the largest concentration of old windmills in Holland. We then continue to Europort, the world’s largest port, for our return crossing to Hull.
Tue 23rd: Hull – Gretna Green – Cairnryan – Larne – Letterkenny
As we make our way home, we stop at the famous “Blacksmith’s Cottage” in Gretna Green before catching the afternoon sailing to Larne. We will arrive back in Letterkenny at approximately 8:30pm.
